Now that the new football season is underway, football fans, bookies, and pundits are already looking closely at French Ligue 1 Season predictions for 2017/2018.

And, if you’re looking for the latest Ligue 1 predictions and odds, you’re in the right place. Having compared a number of matched betting sites, here’s what they’re looking like…

Founded in 1932, more than 19 clubs have been named champions of France, and not all of them have been firm favourites, reinforcing the unpredictable nature of the competition and proving that anything is possible!

French Ligue 1 Betting Tips

Last season, Monaco proved once again why they are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the pitch after winning their eighth Ligue 1 title, their first since 2000.

And this season they’re once again hoping for a repeat performance when it comes to securing their second successive title. But do they have what it takes? Experts are uncertain. This is because this season 2017/2018 is set to be far more competitive than other years, as more than 20 teams battle it out for the Ligue Un trophy.

But that’s not all… Ligue 1 is also widely recognised as one of the most popular football leagues in Europe, meaning it has quickly become a breeding ground for some of the best youth talent in the world of football.

Saint-Etienne is still one of the mist successful teams in France, having secured 10 titles over the years, with Marseille sitting closely behind with their 9 trophies! Teams such as Monaco and Nantes will also be hoping to add to their trophy cabinet too and are firm favourites.

Running from August to May, with a two-week break over Christmas and New Year, Ligue 1 features 20 teams fighting for the trophy. Each team plays every other side once at home and once away. So in total you can expect to enjoy 38 matches!

At the moment, favourites are looking like this!

  • Paris Saint Germain – titles – 6
  • As Monaco – titles – 8
  • Olympique Lyonnais – titles – 7
  • As Saint Etienne – titles – 10
  • Olympique de Marseille – titles – 9
  • FC Nantes – titles – 8

The last 10 Ligue 1 winners were as follows:

  • Monaco
  • Paris
  • Paris
  • Paris
  • Paris
  • Montpellier
  • Lille
  • Marseille
  • Bordeaux
  • Lyon

The side that finishes in second place will also qualify to take part in the Champion’s League, with the team that finishes in third place earning a Champion’s League qualifying round place.

And it would seem that the French Ligue 1 got off to a promising start for many of the teams fighting for the trophy! Kicking off with Monaco Vs Toulous, the first match seen Monaco win 3-2. On Saturday 5th August several more teams went head to head including Paris Saint Germain winning Amiens 2-0, Lyon winning Strabourg 4-0 and Montpellier winning Caen 1-0.

Recent match results from games played on Sunday August 20th include Lille vs Caen 0-2, Marseille vs Angers 1-1 and Paris Saint Germain vs Toulouse  6-2.

For more match action, make sure you tune into upcoming French Ligue 1 matches, which include Paris Saint Germain vs Saint-Etienne scheduled for Saturday, 25th August at 19.45 and Angers vs Lille on August 27 at 16:00.

However, as the competition has repeatedly proven in the past, it really is anyone’s game!  Whichever team gets the most points will become the champions and qualify for the Champions League.
