19-year-old William Gomis killed by Kalachnikov fire
Former St Étienne defender and 19-year-old William Gomis was found last weekend brutally murdered, alongside a 14-year-old, in a horrendous act of violence, according to Le Progrès.
Gomis was with Les Verts for 5 years, before leaving the club this summer after his training contract came to an end. He paid a key role in getting ASSE’s second team promoted to the French 4th division last season.
Police found 24 bullets shot at the scene in his hometown in La Seyne-sur-Mer, and the reason for his brutal murder is currently unclear.
The local outlet reports that ASSE wanted to offer the teenager a professional contract, but that Gomis had turned down their proposal and that the Ligue 1 club had not heard from him since his youth deal had ran its course. Gomis already lost a brother in a gang-related incident.
The teen is not related to French forward Bafétimbi Gomis.
