3 members of Karim Benzema’s entourage in police custody

Three members of Karim Benzema’s entourage, suspected of being involved in an extortion attempt aimed at an acquaintance of the French footballer, were placed in police custody in Paris on Tuesday, sources familiar with the case said, according to Le Point.

The Paris prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for attempted extortion and this has been entrusted to the 3rd district of the judicial police of Paris.

The case relates to a dispute over a €50k payment that Léo D’Souza, an agent and middleman, was supposed to pick up from Morocco on behalf of Benzema – D’Souza claims that the payment was seized by customs, but Benzema’s clan believes that D’Souza kept the money for himself.

D’Souza then claims that they attempted to kidnap him in Paris last month.
