Antoine Griezmann: “Up until the quarter-finals, it was not the Grizou that we know.”

Speaking to BeIN Sports, man of the match Antoine Griezmann discussed his emotions after winning the World Cup.

“At the beginning of the season, my aim was to win the World Cup. I had a difficult start to the season, from September until December. Then I raised my level. In the World Cup I did the same. Up until the quarter-finals, it was not the Grizou that was anticipated or that we know. In the knockout matches I felt more at ease, I gained confidence. I try to do my best.”

On whether he can claim the first goal of the night:

“Oh absolutely. For me, the ball is heading into the back of the net, for me that is a brace. You need to speak to FIFA about this.”

On comparisons with Zinedine Zidane:

“He is a legend for us, and I still have a lot of things I need to achieve to reach his level.”

On the atmosphere in the France squad:

“I think that we are a family. Friday night, we set up a little fire at base camp, there was a lot of us there, we spoke about everything, about the game, our dreams, what we could become. The group works well together, and I think that this has been proven throughout the tournament.”
