Premier League side Brighton are set to miss out on 18-year-old French defender Batista Mendy, who is currently under a youth contract at Nantes, according to RMC.
The player’s vast entourage has severely complicated the teenager’s next career choice, having put pressure on him to visit the English side several weeks ago, which he gave in to, not only checking out Brighton’s facilities but coming back to France having signed a pre-contract for the Seagulls.
This was largely against his personal will, and again, as a result of significant pressure from family members and advisors.
The player himself would prefer to sign his first professional deal with Nantes, and, after a period of studying the legal implications of his agreement with Brighton, it appears as if Mendy will get his way.
Nantes have agreed to match the salary offered by Brighton, which satisfies the player’s advisors, and thus the Premier League side have graciously agreed to annul the prior agreement to enable Mendy to sign for the club that he genuinely wants to begin his professional career at.
Nothing is concluded fully either way yet, but Batista Mendy appears all set to stay with Les Canaris.
