Didier Deschamps: “Benjamin Mendy could start for me at the World Cup.”

Speaking in a long interview with SFR Sport, France manager Didier Deschamps discussed the injury situation surrounding Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy.

“He is in the category of good, even very good players. Aside from that, he has to find rhythm again, in team training, to play competitively again. He is doing everything, I know what his desire is… Today, I have no answer, neither does he [if Mendy will make the World Cup]. He is doing everything to be in the right condition, all whilst remembering what happened to him. There is no point coming back too early. He must recover his reflexes, extension and no longer fear his injury.”
