Speaking to BeIN Sports following lifting the World Cup trophy, left-back Lucas Hernandez sought to sum up his initial emotions.
“It is incredible, I don’t think that we yet realise what we have just achieved, it something huge. And tomorrow when we come to Paris, maybe then we will begin to understand. To celebrate this with all of the French people, I think there are millions of French people currently celebrating in the streets, I can’t wait to go to Paris tomorrow, and see all of these people, singing Long Live France.”
On only being selected for the national team for the first time 4 months ago:
“There were a lot of French people, a lot of journalists, who criticised me, because they thought that I did not feel French, but as soon as the coach called me, the first time I was able to put this shirt on, I knew that I would give everything until death for it and that has been seen. In all these competitions I have worked my hardest, it was the same today, and to win this trophy is incredible.”
