Lyon enter the race for Abdou Diallo

Lyon have entered the race for French youth international captain and Mainz central defender Abdou Diallo in a major way in recent hours, according to L’Équipe.

The 22-year-old’s representatives are said to have been in contact with Napoli, Arsenal and especially Dortmund. The latter side are understood to have already agreed personal terms with the player regarding a long term contract.

Lyon’s concrete approach interests Diallo greatly, as he is being offered a starting berth at a Champions’ League club in his home country. Contacts in recent days have intensified to such an extent that OL have now made the player a contract offer.

Manager Bruno Génésio is said to have fallen in love with the player’s level of maturity despite his tender age.

Lyon will lodge a formal bid to Mainz in the coming days worth over €20m in order to sign the player. Diallo is clearly Les Gones’ Plan A.
