Lyon have set their asking price at €30m plus a percentage of re-sale fee agreement for 16-year-old forward Willem Geubbels this summer, with the teenager wanting to make a move to AS Monaco, according to Goal France.
Geubbels, after choosing not to sign a new contract with Lyon, has decided that he wants his next adventure to be at Monaco. The two clubs began negotiations last week, with an initial sit down, during with Lyon told Monaco they want the conditions above met.
Monaco were unhappy, viewing €30m as too big a risk on a 16-year-old, seemingly willing to go up to an overall agreement worth maximum €20m. In the meantime, Lyon have been informing fellow Geubbels suitors RB Leipzig that they are willing to negotiate a deal around the €15m mark with them.
A clear discrepancy in negotiating tactics from Lyon, clearly intended to force Monaco, a direct rival, into losing out on Geubbels. The player’s camp wants to move this summer and are still hopeful that Monaco and Lyon can reach an agreement. Ultimately, it is Geubbels and his father who hold all the cards. Lyon might try and force the teen to join Leipzig, but the French youth international has made it clear that he wants Monaco to be his next home. If Lyon don’t offer a fair deal, Geubbels may just let his contract run down, when by January 2019, he will be free to negotiate with any club of his choosing.
