Mathieu Debuchy pens 3-year deal with St Étienne

Saint-Étienne have today confirmed the signing of Mathieu Debuchy on a 3-year contract.

The right-back played in Jean-Louis Gasset’s side in the second half of the 2017/18 campaign after initially signing a short-term contract at the club in January until the end of the season.

The former Lille and Newcastle defender made such an impression in his stint indeed, winning the February Ligue 1 UNFP Player of the month trophy and scoring 4 goals in his 10 appearances- that the club have deemed the 32-year old a worthy investment this summer.

Debuchy has expressed his delight at having committed to the club on a long-term deal: “I really enjoyed the four months in Saint-Étienne, I had excellent moments with the ASSE supporters, and their hospitality touched me a lot. Playing at home in such an atmosphere with the good results we achieved in the last few months and the presence of Jean-Louis Gasset has reinforced my decision to sign with ASSE”.
