Mathieu Debuchy retires from international duty

33-year-old St Étienne right-back Mathieu Debuchy announced in an interview with RMC today that he had decided to retire from international duty with immediate effect.

“France is finished for me. I want to move on to something else, to concentrate on my club. I had some great years, a Euros and a World Cup. But it has been a while since I have been in the French national team. I think that I did the most I could at the end of last season to be there and for me, I deserved a place in the squad. Now, choices have been made. It is true that, I have come to a moment in my career where I want to concentrate on the club, give my maximum and try to win titles with St Étienne.”
