N’Golo Kanté gave a press conference yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Germany. The highlights.
On his decision to dine with strangers and watch Match of the Day:
This story from England. It is true, this family invited me to dinner and I said yes and we had a good time together.
On being a “cheater”, as stated in the now famous Kanté song:
I think it was Benjamin Mendy who changed the lyrics to the song. It was a little switch made just as a joke between us but it blew up. I know that I am not a cheater in my heart. It was more a funny moment in Russia, now I am continuing to play cards and we are continuing to have fun.
On the N’Golo Kanté craze:
I have received a lot of kindness and compliments from fans. I do not necessarily feel like the darling of the team. I appreciate the kindness they show me. I reflect on it and I know that at the end of the day I am just a footballer. I appreciate these moments, but I reflect. I think it comes from my journey to get here and my personality. I stay who I am.
On the Ballon D’Or:
It is a really nice form of recognition. It is the second year in a row that I am featuring in the top 30. It is not the most important, but it is still nice recognition for the work and performances of the last 2 seasons. Aside from that, for the winner of the Ballon D’Or, I think it will be difficult. You have Luka Modric who has had a good season, it would be nice for it to come to a Frenchman because of the World Cup. But ultimately, we will wait for the votes to see who is champion.
