Just recently loaned to Málaga CF, Bordeaux attacker Diego Rolán will be continuing his venture in Spain next season. Announced earlier today, RC Deportivo de La Coruña have signed the skillful Uruguayan on a permanent deal from Les Girondins. Rolán joins Deportivo in a reported €6m deal, signing with the club from northern Spain until 2020.
Having been touted as a potential Ligue 1 beater, Rolán’s time with Bordeaux did not proceed as expected. The Uruguayan forward joined the Ligue 1 side on deadline day of the 2013 January transfer window, and slowly began to establish himself in southern France. He played a part in 18 goals in the 2014/15 season and 11 the year after, but promptly fell out of favour in Bordeaux nearly as quickly as he had earned his spot in the first eleven. Rolán struggled to 19 starts in the 2016/17 season and was sent out on loan the following campaign.
Despite the disappointing developments in France, Rolán has the perfect opportunity to re-establish himself in Spain. His ability to play in every position across the forward line will come in handy for Deportivo, a club that struggled to create consistent offence in league play. Deployed primarily as a striker but adept as a right or left winger, Rolán’s dribbling and passing ability as well his skills on the ball will bring a spark to the Galician club.
