US Orléans have today completed the signing of young striker Jordan Tell on loan for the 2018/19 season. Tell joins from Stade Rennais FC having just extended his contract with the Breton club until 2022. The arrival of the 21-year-old frontman brings in a much-needed reinforcement to an Orléans attack that was left barren with the departure of Yannick Gomis, who started 31 of Orléans’ 38 Ligue 2 games and scored 12 goals.
Tell began last season in Rennes and appeared in the first two of Les Rouges et Noirs’ Ligue 1 matches. The young striker’s role in northwestern France was minimal, as all of his action for SRFC came from off the bench. Having played just 109 minutes in Ligue 1 up until late January, Tell was sent out on loan to Valenciennes FC in efforts to find more playing time.
Northern France did indeed offer Tell more opportunities, but the promising attacker struggled to nail down a consistent position. Manager Réginald Ray used Tell across the front line of his Valenciennes side, with the youngster seeing time on both the right and left wing as well as through the middle.
With a total of 18 French caps to his name from the U16 to the U20 level, the potential of Tell is evident. What is most important now is for the Rennes youngster to find consistent playing time in his preferred position up front.
