Official | Lille sign wonder-kid Rafael Leão on a free transfer from Sporting Portugal

Lille OSC have today announced a major coup in signing Portuguese wonderkid Rafael Leão on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Sporting Lisbon.

The 19-year-old prospect has signed a 5-year-deal at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, and Les Dogues have beaten a host of top European clubs – including Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus – to Leão’s signature.

Leão was one of a group of Sporting players who ended their contacts at the Portuguese club in May, following a highly unpleasant incident at the club’s training ground that saw several players and coaches attacked by numerous club supporters.

Christophe Galtier’s new signing – who only emerged into the Sporting first team setup in the final third of last season, scoring his only goal in his three appearances in a 2-1 away loss to Porto – is thought to have agreed to move to the Ligue 1 side with the hope of further playing time than at other clubs seeking his talents.
