OGC Nice have announced that Italian international striker Mario Balotelli has today decided to remain at the club for a 3rd consecutive season.
In a much protracted transfer saga that spanned the entire summer, it had seemed that Super Mario would be joining Marseille, with the Italian even visiting OM’s training ground in July.
After a series of low-ball offers from Marseille to Nice, a deal could not be agreed between the three parties, with the player’s agent Mino Raiola reportedly demanding considerable agent commission fees.
Balotelli’s spell under manager Patrick Vieira started poorly when the Italian decided not to turn up for pre-season training, with many speculating that this was a move made by the Italian to force a transfer.
Vieira said as recently as two weekends ago that he only wanted players at the club who wanted to be here, and that “it would be very difficult” for Mario to stay.
Nice’s press release this evening claims the following:
“Mario Balotelli has chosen to stay at OGC Nice. The Italian international expressed this desire to Nice representatives.”
