Following back to back impressive 1-0 triumphs against Nice and Lyon, Stade de Reims have today improved an already stout defence with the signing of centre-back Björn Engels. Engels joins on loan from Greek side Olympiacos, having struggled to immediately impress in the Greek Superleague.
Despite still being 23 years of age, Engels brings with him valuable European experience that was previously minimal at Reims. Between Olympiakos and former team Club Brugge, the central defender has appeared in a total of ten Champions League and Europa League matches. During his time in Belgium with his formative club Brugge, Engels also won the league and domestic cup.
Reim’s newest signing expressed his excitement over the transfer on Twitter, declaring, “I am very proud to join Stade de Reims. Many thanks to the club for this opportunity. Can’t wait to get started!”
