After a slight hiccup in Spain, Sébastien Corchia’s career looks to be getting back on track. The 27-year-old right-back has today sealed a move from Sevilla to Benfica, heading to the Portuguese capital on loan for the 2018/19 season. Benfica have negotiated an option to buy into their agreement with Sevilla, something they will exercise should Corchia turn out to be an apt replacement for the injured Tyronne Ebuehi.
In signing Corchia, Benfica have added quite the tidy player to their defensive ranks. Incredibly well-rounded with a surprisingly good free kick in his locker, the French defender will bring consistency and experience to manager Rui Vitória’s back line.
Corchia is coming off of a difficult season with Sevilla during which he appeared in just 12 league matches, assisting one goal. Displacing André Almeida as the first choice Benfica right-back will prove difficult for Corchia, but if he can tap into the form he displayed in the red and blue of Lille just two years ago then he’ll be a great addition to Rui Vitória’s squad.
