Official | St Étienne send Léo Lacroix on loan to Hamburg

Saint-Étienne have confirmed defender Léo Lacroix has joined Bundesliga 2 side Hamburg on a season-loan deal, with an option to buy.

The Swiss international has joined the German club – who were relegated at the end of last season for the first time in nearly 55 years – on an agreement that will include an option to purchase the 6 ft 6 in defender.

Lacroix was signed by Christophe Galtier in the summer of 2016, but has found his first-team opportunities largely limited at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard- behind the likes of Kévin Théophile-Catherine, Neven Subotic and even 17-year-old prospect William Saliba in the defensive pecking order- resulting in a loan move to Swiss Super League side FC Basel last season, where he made 9 appearances.

Saint Étienne are thought to be keen to ensure to offload Lacroix, whose contract is due to run out by June 2020.
