Le Racing have today filled one of their most obvious holes with the arrival of South African striker Lebo Mothiba from Lille. The 22-year-old attacker has signed with Strasbourg until 2023 and will wear the #12 shirt for the Ligue 1 side.
Mothiba joins Strasbourg after a successful 2017/18 season during which he scored a total of 13 league goals between his time in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. The South African striker started the season on loan to Valenciennes FC where he found the net eight times but was later brought back to Lille in January.
Les Dogues offered Mothiba a starting role upon his return, an opportunity that the 22-year-old did well with. In the 14 Ligue 1 matches that Mothiba played in he scored five times and provided one assist.
Racing’s newest signing made a few promises to the club and its fans upon his arrival, declaring, “I’m going to give my all for this club, work even harder every single day, and try to score a lot of goals so that I can make everyone happy!”
Signing a striker for a reported €4m is a statement of intent from Strasbourg, who will be looking to avoid Ligue 1 relegation after missing the drop by just five points last season.
