Speaking to the mixed zone following France’s 2-0 loss to the Netherlands last night, Olivier Giroud accepted that his side’s performance was inexcusable.
“We knew the quality that the Netherlands had, even more after their recent victory over Germany. We were warned and we have no excuses. I do not think that this was a question of desire but from the moment that you are second best in all aspects of the game… I felt like in the first half, when we were pressing, we were not co-ordinated, it was not a team. There was not what was needed to win the ball, we played too deep… Now, we have to take responsibility. We had been having some very good results in recent times and this evening I hope that this will force us to react.”
