Sadio Mané defends the quality of Ligue 1: “I think PSG have put together an exceptional run.”

Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, Liverpool winger Sadio Mané discussed PSG’s  run of 14 straight league victories and defended the quality of Ligue 1 in general.

“I think that sometimes you, the French, speak too negatively of Ligue 1, like: “It is too easy for PSG.” I do not agree. I think that the PSG players have put together an exceptional series of victories. People do not realise to what extent players are under pressure: a single draw, and people are all over you. I insist: I respect the PSG players a lot.”

On what he expects for tomorrow’s clash:

I know it is going to be tight. We are going to do all we can to get a good result. In any case, we don’t have a choice, because, if we lose, we are in serious trouble. But if we win, we have basically qualified. This match is basically a knockout game.

On the potential absences of Kylian Mbappé & Neymar:

We should not at all be fixed on their absence or presence. Because, even if they don’t play, the PSG attack is still made up of very good players: Cavani, Draxler, Di Maria… And others as well, who might usually be on the bench, and who are waiting to get their chance.

On Liverpool so far losing both their away matches in the Champions’ League this season:

I don’t know… it is not an excuse, but maybe it is fatigue, because we are playing a lot of matches that we absolutely have to win. This summer, the club invested a lot in signings, so we now have no excuse but to be ambitious. But, in the Premier League, if you concede a single draw, others climb ahead of you.
