Speaking at a 2-hour Q&A charity event and the Olympia music hall in Paris earlier this week, Arsène Wenger was asked about the 49-match unbeaten run he presided over as manager of Arsenal between 2003 & 2004.
“We lost our invincibility against Manchester United in a match in which the referees were partly responsible. It was not deserved. If I die, I am going to ask God where the referees are before choosing between heaven and hell. I remember that the season before, we finished unbeaten away from home and lost the title because of our home form. And then all the players clashed with me because I said that we could finish the league without a defeat. During the season of the title, we were champions with 5 games to go. I remember saying to them: “Now it is up to you if you want to be forever immortal or not.” And they did it. Premier League winners without a loss.”
