Our reliable colleagues at Goal France report that Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have opened negotiations with Portuguese side Rio Ave about signing 23-year-old left-back Matheus Reis.
Les Girondins are looking to sign a player in this position to provide competition for Maxime Poundjé, with Youssouf Sabaly attracting interest from the Premier League and elsewhere.
Reis has barely been in Portugal, having joined Rio Ave this summer from FC São Paulo – he has 14 appearances in the NOS league and has laid on 3 assists to date.
The idea of coming to Ligue 1 and working under Brazilian manager Ricardo are two strong forces that could convince the player to make the move, currently under contract until 2021 with Rio Ave.
Nevertheless, Bordeaux are remaining prudent in this situation, as the player has interest from Spain and larger Portuguese sides.
