Speaking in a press conference at France’s Clairefontaine training base today, Didier Deschamps explained his decision to bring Arsenal midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi into the fold after Blaise Matuidi’s withdrawal owing to injury ahead of crucial EURO 2020 qualifying games.
“Matteo has been here before. We are in a similar situation here as we were in last September when he replaced Paul Pogba. Mattéo is on top with his club and with the U21s. We are in a position of continuity on this subject matter. He is a young player with strong potential even if he has yet to have any playing time with us.”
