L’Équipe report that 32-year-old French attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet has received several offers for January from clubs in Turkey and China.
Payet is currently the highest paid player in the OM squad, with the club currently running a deficit in their accounts that they will need to plug either next month or at the beginning of the next summer transfer window in order to avoid getting into trouble with French football financial watchdog the DNCG.
It seems impossible that Payet will leave Marseille next month, with EURO 2020 firmly in his viewfinder. Next summer, however, the player currently contracted to Marseille until 2022 will have the opportunity to leave and probably earn one final big, 3-year contract at a more exotic destination, should he desire.
One thing is clear, if he wants a new deal from Marseille, it will almost certainly be on weaker financial terms than his current contract.
