Speaking as part of the inaugural episode of the Get French Football News Presidents Podcast, Bordeaux Chairman Joe DaGrosa explained why he was initially drawn to the game.
“The opportunity was presented to me by a friend in Hugo Varela. I am pleased and honoured to say that he is my partner today in Bordeaux. He managed to lay it out in a way I could understand. That football, or sports, provides content for this great big machine that we call the internet. Where there is an insatiable demand for content and I am sure you are seeing it in your business. Sports provides that fodder that raw material for content and there is a massive increase demand for it. Sports provides that and soccer, the sport that I think will be the fastest growing and most consumed from a media perspective sport in the world. It is a great place to be & then the question is are you going to be part of the old world and the new world. And that gets into the issue of relative value. I do tend to think of things through a Wall Street prism, relative value is a concept that I grew up with, and Hugo made a compelling case that the value is in Europe and not in the US, at least at this point.”
