Speaking as part of the inaugural episode of the Get French Football News Presidents Podcast, Bordeaux Chairman Joe DaGrosa looked back on his discussions with Thierry Henry to make him the club’s manager in 2018.
“I think there was really no bad intentions on either side. A lot of it was driven by the scope of responsibility and how much say he might have in player selection. I think our view was that we’d like him to have a seat at the table and he wanted to have more than a seat at the table. By the way it doesn’t make him a bad guy or us bad guys, we just had a fundamental difference in views as to the role of a coach. We agreed to part ways as friends.”
