L’Équipe report that former Italian international and ex AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso has rejected an approach to become the next manager of FC Nantes.
Nantes owner Waldemar Kita wants to bring in a big name to manage the club after the departure of Vahid Halilhodzic, which officially occurred on Friday.
After initially making contact with those close to the Italian to check if he was interested, Kita approached Gattuso directly via a phone call from is yacht in Saint-Tropez.
However, Gattuso was not totally convinced that a move to Nantes is a good opportunity for him to jump back into management after being sacked by AC Milan last May.
Our colleague Mohamed Toubache-TER reported yesterday that ex US national team boss Jürgen Klinsmann has also been offered to the Nantes owner, who is vaguely interested.
However, Klinsmann is set to take up a role on the board of VfB Stuttgart, so Kita would have to move quickly if he wants the German.
