Le Télégramme report this morning that Ligue 1 strugglers EA Guingamp are closing in on the purchase of 21-year-old central midfielder Mehdi Merghem from Châteauroux.
Merghem has played just 10 games in Ligue 2 this season, but is out of contract with his current club in June. A deal is hours away from completion and will follow the signings of Alexandre Mendy (Bordeaux – loan), Didier Ndong (Sunderland – transfer) and Paps Djilobodji (Sunderland – free) in an opportunistic window from the Brittany side.
Merghem can play as an 8 or 10 and is viewed as a talent with much potential in French football second division circles.
