L’Équipe and Foot Mercato report that Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin have now overtaken and are set to beat Lille in the race for Watford’s Belgian winger Dodi Lukebakio.
Les Dogues had an initial €12m + €3m in bonuses offer rejected by the Premier League side for the player, and considered upping their bid in recent days for the 21-year-old.
However, Hertha Berlin’s offer is €20m and Les Dogues were unconvinced about competing at that level. Lukebakio’s preference was Lille, excited about the prospect of playing Champions’ League football, but Hertha now appear to have won the race.
Watford of course were keen to push the player in that direction, and despite renewed fee discussions in recent days, LOSC do not appear set to improve their bid. In Germany, Lukebakio now appears set to sign a 5-year contract.
