France Bleu report that the Ingré U18s side were physically assaulted by their latest opponents, Bourges-Moulon U18s and the latter side’s fans, during a Coupe Gambardella encounter on Sunday.
Ingré U18s won the match, but what followed was more horrific than should be imaginable on a football pitch. Two of their players were hospitalised after physical assaults from losing Bourges-Moulon U18s players and other spectators. Subsequent legal complaints have been filed following the incident.
After having been 2-0 down, the Ingré players managed to take the game to a draw, before winning the encounter on penalties. After the final whistle, a myriad of punches were thrown at the victorious youngsters.
The Ingré manager, Fabrice Bourdin, described: “genuine scenes of war, players and spectators came to beat us up.” Bourdin had to lie on top of one of his players, who was already badly hurt, just to protect him.
We will watch this story closely, which has affected the club that is responsible for the youth development of Florian Thauvin and others.
