Speaking to RMC Sport following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Barcelona at the Camp Nou last night, Lyon President Jean-Michel Aulas gave his thoughts on the encounter.
“The intention was there, but it is true that over the course of the 1st half, it was difficult. But the realities of the game went against our favour, they even probably changed the direction of the match. When you think that our starting goalkeeper, who is as good as Anthony Lopes is, is lost following a clash, when you have to contend with this improbable penalty decision… We could have imagined a different scenario.”
“Yes, VAR… UEFA assured us that it was in fact working to confirm the penalty. Today, you cannot say it is a real success. When that happens in an unbalanced match, one could imagine that it does not have a bearing on the result. But here, I feel that it really penalised our team and that we had a few weaknesses after that. Barcelona were better, but there was not as much of a difference between the two teams as the result indicates.”
