The representatives of 29-year-old Boca Juniors attacker Dario Benedetto claim that Ligue 1 side Marseille have a serious interest in the player, according to RMC.
The Argentine international’s entourage however did not confirm that the player is actively seeking to force a move away from Boca and to OM, contrary to other South American press reports.
No formal bid has been made for the player as of yet, but Marseille are understood to have made enquiries about salary requirements.
The player has a €21m release clause – OM cannot afford that – a deal currently seems unlikely.
An agent who has already placed an Argentine at Marseille had the following to say:
“Benedetto is a phenomenon. An unrelenting goalscorer. His only fault is that he does not have an enormous volume to his game. But he is a great player. He could adapt without any issue to French football and the Marseille atmosphere. But it will be a difficult deal to do, especially because OM are in a tricky financial situation.”
