Maxwell weighs in on Manchester United clash: “This is an enormous opportunity.”

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Culture PSG, the capital club’s Assistant Sporting Director and ex-left-back Maxwell discussed Tuesday’s mammoth clash with Manchester United.

From the moment that the draw was made, PSG seemed to be the favourites in this match up. With the current performances of Manchester United and the slight slow down in form of PSG taken into account, would you say the that the balance of power is same today?

The balance of power has stayed completely the same. Everything that has been said since the draw, has been judged by the press, by people. But the strengths are still the same. We have a lot of respect for them, they have the same for us I am sure. Nothing has changed in relation to that. There are no favourites. There is one club who has a rich history in the Champions’ League, another that is seeking the road to being competitive every year. Two great squads, great players and managers with hunger. So the strengths are the same, nothing has changed since December. The only thing that will make the difference is the pitch. Everything that is said around, before and after the match are stories told by other people. But the players are concentrated on the match.

On his reaction to the draw:

An enormous opportunity. It is a club, as I said, with a huge history. They have a stadium that breathes for football, big matches. This is a fantastic opportunity for all the players. It motivates everyone, the fans to make the trip, the players to play and us to go there and make sure that the squad is as ready as possible for the match. When I saw the ball come out, I was happy, because we are assured to have a great match. All the players want to play matches like this. In any case, in the Champions’ League, you get to choose nothing. There are always big challenges and today that starts at Old Trafford.

On if the match vs. Liverpool at the Parc des Princes is a reference point owing to the two fixtures that are coming up vs. Manchester United. Could that be viewed as a turning point for PSG in Europe this season?

I think that it was a match that showed a very strong image of the team, especially as a collective. We pulled off a complete performance, with a result and an atmosphere at the Parc that was extraordinary. That took us on the road to qualification all together. It was a very important match for the team, for the fans. In terms of atmosphere, everything has changed in comparison with previous matches.
