AS Monaco today announced the purchase of Portuguese international attacker Gelson Martins from Atletico Madrid, with media reports claiming that the Principality side are paying close to €30m for the privilege.
Martins, who cast doubt on his desire to actually sign for Monaco permanently after his 6 month loan spell last season earlier this summer, is now tied to ASM for the next 5 seasons until 2024.
The player had the following to say on the move:
“I am very happy to be able to sign up to AS Monaco for the long-term. Despite the difficult situation, we were able to show good things last season and I will give my all to help the club attain its objectives this season.”
In his 17 matches so far for Monaco, he has scored 4 times and assisted 4 times.
