St Étienne have this afternoon confirmed the appointment of Claude Puel as the club’s new manager on 3-season deal until June 2022.
Puel is joined by loyal assistant Jacky Bonnevay, as ASSE also appoint Xavier Thuilot as their new Director General at the same time.
Thuilot’s last role in football came between 2013 and 2015 when he occupied the same position at current Ligue 2 side RC Lens.
Speaking following his appointment, Puel explained why he had taken the job just two days before St Étienne’s derby with bitter rivals Lyon on Sunday night:
“I wanted to be there for the derby. A derby must be won with courage and self-sacrifice. And after that there will be work and tactical construction.”
