Lyon have today confirmed the signing of 21-year-old box-to-box midfielder Jean Lucas from Flamengo for €8m.
The Brazilian spent the last 6 months on loan at Santos.
Lyon’s Head of Scouting Florian Maurice had the following to say on the matter:
“Juninho spoke to us about Jean a while ago. He saw him play when he was a commentator. He is very young, we are going to ask you all the be patient. He has enormous potential. He is a midfielder, a number 8, box to box.”
Lucas has signed a 5-year contract with Les Gones.
“I am very happy to join this team. I thank God and my family for making my dream come true. Lyon are a great club with great players. I hope to have my turn to mark the history of the club. Juninho called me and I was very happy. Ever since I was very little, I had said that I wanted to play in France. All of that played a role in my decision. I have been watching French football for a long time. I know that it requires a lot of strength. I like to attack but also to defend. I hope to be in the starting XI as quickly as possible to show the fans what I know how to do. I don’t have an idol in Brazil apart from my dad. My idol in Europe is Paul Pogba. The coach? I know Sylvinho, he is an excellent manager. I am going to ask him to help me grow.”
