Official | Lyon sign Thiago Mendes from Lille for a reported €25m

Lyon have today confirmed the signing of Thiago Mendes from Lille and presented him to the media.

The Brazilian midfielder, who numerically replaces Tanguy Ndombele (of Tottenham) in Lyon’s squad but is actually a #6 and thus likely to take Lucas Tousart’s place in the OL starting XI next season, had the following to say:

“I am happy to become a Gone. I hope to give a lot of joy to this club. Lyon is one of the best teams in Europe. Juninho and Sylvinho had a big impact of my decision and that of my family’s. I am signed up to their project. I will play where I am told to play. I am here to work and of course win titles.”

Sporting Director Juninho followed up:

“He is a player who is highly active on the pitch. He knows Ligue 1 well because he has been here for 2 years. He corresponds with exactly what we are looking for. Florian Maurice told me about him, he had been following him for a long time. I hope that his adaptation period will be short. His strength is his versatility. In a 4-3-3, he can play in all the positions in the middle. We had to work quickly on this deal because a lot of other clubs were interested.”
