Olivier Giroud: “I am going back to Chelsea pumped up.”

Olivier Giroud, who scored yet again for France tonight, talked to reporters after drawing with Turkey 1-1 in a crucial group match during this EURO 2020 qualifying journey.

Are you disappointed after this draw, especially because you were leading?

Yes of course, because we did the hardest bit by scoring in the final minutes but we were breached from a free-kick.

Are you satisfied with scoring with your first touch?

Antoine (Griezmann) hits the corner sweetly, I had to be in the right place and right time. It was a fiery header.

Are you going to send videos of your goals to Frank Lampard (Chelsea manager)?

No, no. He will almost certainly watch the matches. In any case, I am going back to Chelsea pumped up.

Are you considering your future at Chelsea?

I am going to fight for my place at Chelsea. I don’t necessarily (want to leave). But there are things that mean… If I am forced to make a decision, I will make it like when I left Arsenal.

Was this international break a source of oxygen for you?

Yes. For different reasons, I have played little since the last national team break. Of course it feels good to make the difference.

How did you view tonight’s atmosphere? Did sport triumph over politics?

Exactly. There was a match going on in the stands too. Our fans did us all proud, because we know the intensity that there is in the stands around this Turkish team. Once again, the French showed their presence. It was a wonderful match.
