Speaking to reporters following France’s 4-1 victory over Albania, striker Olivier Giroud discussed the game and his objectives.
Les Bleus have kicked this season off pretty well…
Yes it was a good way to be back. Lots of things to be happy about, a lot of enthusiasm too, especially in the 1st half. In the 2nd half, there was a bit of fatigue, but we still constructed some nice moves and a fair amount of attacking intent.
You scored your 36th goal with France.
Yes… My aim is to try to join Michel Platini (on 41 goals). I think that it is good to fix such an aim and not to rest my laurels.
You could have scored earlier, with your head. What was going on in this move?
Yes there was, people thought that I was more centrally in line with the goal… but there is the goalkeeper who comes back into his goal, a defender comes towards me and the ball is coming at a different angle. So I think that the best option is to put it central for Antoine (Griezmann) who is free. But there, I did not execute it right. To summarise, I messed everything up in this move. I rushed it a little. I could have been more effective on this one but I was later on.
On Kingsley Coman’s performance:
I am happy for him. He has been hounded by injuries up until this point. The fact that he was able to express himself with his full powers at his disposal is a good thing. On top of that, he was efficient in front of goal.
