Patrick Vieira reacts to 4-1 loss vs St Étienne: “We were catastrophic.”

Speaking during a post-match press conference earlier this evening after losing 4-1 to St Étienne, OGC Nice manager Patrick Vieira did not hold back his views on his side’s performance.

“Defensively, we lacked concentration and conviction in terms of positioning and our decision-making. We were catastrophic defensively, individually and collectively. This is a huge disappointment. I blame our squad for individual weaknesses. If we had stayed a little longer in this match, there was room to take something from it.”

“Defensively, we showed our limitations. There were players who completely messed up their match, others who had not played for a long time. For the four at the back, it was difficult but I expected more. It is an enormous disappointment. We were not at the standard that we showed in the last match that we won against Angers. We did not do the minimum required defensively but we must face our critics and this non-match to reinvigorate ourselves for the next game.”
