L’Équipe report that Paul Pogba still has every intention of joining Real Madrid this summer, despite participating fully in Manchester United’s pre-season.
The outlet claims that Manchester United are trying to close two deals: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (Lazio) and Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Portugal), but everything is going to come down to a question of timing.
In many ways, Pogba’s situation mirrors that of Neymar, he wants to join a team that has yet to make a formal bid for him.
Los Blancos’ strategy of trying to force the Red Devils to the table by selling a player who doesn’t want to be there and thus bringing their asking price is the reason behind their lack of concrete action. Part of this plan, it would appear, is the suggestion in Spanish press outlets in recent days that they will turn to Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek as an alternative.
Pogba’s price is however still expected to be €150m – this game of chicken is coming to an end, and Real Madrid know that if they really want him, and Zinedine Zidane still absolutely does, they will have to formulate a bid before August 8th.
