Speaking to Canal Plus shortly after yesterday’s 1-1 draw between PSG and OGC Nice, Thomas Tuchel did not mince his words.
“I got the impression that in the second half at Montpellier (3-2 loss) we played better than today. Today, we took the approach as if we were playing a friendly. We lacked intensity, acceleration. Maybe that is normal because the league is won. But we are playing even if the league is definitively over. This was not our best performance.”
In a press conference after, he added:
“This is quite a bizarre phase. We won the league very early. We were missing things, that is obvious. We played the game as if it was a friendly. We lacked intensity before the match, me too, that is normal. There is nothing to win, no objectives to attain. We are not happy with how we played, with our lack of tempo, aggression, acceleration. I can understand. It shows how exceptional my team was before the international break (at the end of March)… The defeat in the Coupe de France was super difficult. But it is difficult to rediscover our best level in Ligue 1, that is why it is not easy to win… Cavani had a big chance to score. He had a normal game.”
