Speaking as part of the Didier face à Deschamps documentary on TF1, France central defender Raphaël Varane elaborated on manager Didier Deschamps’ pet hate.
“When you put on the French national team shirt we know that on the pitch, we have to give the maximum. Give everything, absolutely do not take a match lightly and play in a relaxed way. He cannot stand that. With him, you can miss a pass, play badly, but in terms of the attitude on the pitch it is something that can make him furious if on the pitch we do not have the right attitude.”
Deschamps added his views on what the shirt means:
“The shirt belongs to nobody more than anyone else. It doesn’t belong to me. Pay attention, each time you come and get to wear it, you are privileged.”
