L’Équipe report that if Boubakary Soumaré does not quit Lille next month, then Brazilian midfielder Thiago Maia may well do.
Maia would become the 4th choice central midfielder behind Renato Sanches, Xeka and Benjamin André were Soumaré to leave. Last summer, the Brazilian rejected offers from Sampdoria and Genoa, repeatedly telling Lille that he wanted to move back to Brazil.
The issue was that the quality of offers financially to Lille for the player from Brazil were not sufficient enough for Les Dogues to agree to this departure. The situation has not changed since 6 months ago, with Maia perennially sitting on the bench so far this season and without any offers to write home about.
Maia’s situation depends entirely on Soumaré’s future. If the latter goes, Maia will be forced to stay.
