Thomas Tuchel on the defensive after 2-0 loss to Reims: “Anyone can be a manager after the match is over.”

Speaking in a press conference that lasted less than 5 minutes at the behest of the press officer, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel reacted to his side’s 2-0 defeat to Reims at the Parc des Princes.

Did you make a mistake tonight?

If you think that it is my responsibility, I will take that responsibility, no problem at all. I take the decisions before (a match) because after a match, anyone can be a manager no?

You’ve already lost twice this season – does that worry you?

Yes, we are disappointed because we deserved to lose. Reims played closer to their 100% level than we did and it was not possible today for us to have our rhythm, intensity, aggressiveness in winning the ball back for several minutes to put pressure on Reims. It was not possible and I don’t know why. It is like that, we will have to analyse it. We are disappointed but we are united. We started by playing together well in the first 15 minutes but after, we lost our rhythm and our intensity.

We lost easy balls then we lost Choupo-Moting, the fourth attacker. We have four #9s in the squad but we did not have a single one left on the pitch so it became more and more difficult. With their first chance, they scored and the match became very difficult. But it was not a good performance on our part. We are always very critical with ourselves and this was not a good performance by us. We are disappointed.

Lost points with the usual substitutes or the context of being too relaxed?

Maybe both. During the training session today at 11:00, it was… there was not the usual level of concentration. But that is also normal. We gave opportunities to players and I believe in them, in all of them. I am convinced that we could have played better with today’s team. But it was not possible… We made lots of mistakes, we were really lacking in terms of winning the ball back, we were deflated when it came to counter-pressing, we played in an over-complicated and not dangerous way. It was not possible for us to beat their players, to force errors or to have more touches in the opposition’s box. Our game was not dangerous, not aggressive. There are lots of reasons why we lost.
