Ligue 2 side Valenciennes have approached their counterparts at French top flight side Rennes to sign 20-year-old attacker Rafik Guitane on loan until the end of the season, according to L’Équipe.
Bought from Le Havre two years ago for €10m, Guitane’s progress has been slowed down by an ACL injury and will spend the rest of the campaign out on loan, having been offered to a myriad of clubs.
Talks between Rennes and Valenciennes are being facilitated by the good relationship between the former club’s president Olivier Létang and latter side’s coach Olivier Guégan, who spent time together at Reims.
The difficulty in getting a deal done at the moment centres around how much of the player’s wages Valenciennes are willing to cover during the loan.
