Argentinian goalkeeper Walter Benitez (Nice) open to playing for France

Speaking in an interview with Nice-Matin, 27-year-old OGC Nice goalkeeper Walter Benitez admitted his frustration at not being selected for the Argentinian national team and that he would be open to playing for France should he receive the relevant passport, which he will be eligible to apply for in 2021.

“I don’t know why I have never been called up (by Argentina). You wonder sometimes what more you can do.”

On playing for France from 2021 onwards:

That would be great! It would be a pleasure to wear the French national team’s shirt! But it is difficult, there is Lloris and some very good goalkeepers in France.
