AS Monaco VP Oleg Petrov: “We wanted to avoid this scenario, like the majority of Ligue 1 sides.”

Speaking in a press release, AS Monaco Vice President Oleg Petrov reacted to the permanent suspension of the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season.

“This is the scenario that AS Monaco, like the majority of clubs in our league, wanted to avoid. Of course we wanted to restart the season, we take into account the decision made in an extremely complicated health situation, with the economic consequences and the reality we are going to face, together.”

“We regret the final classification because we have the ambition to do better. During this season, we put together a lot of efforts – reorganising, strengthening during the transfer window – to change things and reach the European places. It did not all work as we would have liked.”

“Now is the time to analyse everything that has happened before looking forward with determination to next season, to come back stronger. Our ambitions are not changing.”

AS Monaco finished 9th in the table.
